Alice Irene Hood Ledford, 99, a resident of Old Fort, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009 in a local hospital. She was a member of Blue Ridge Temple Baptist Church in Old Fort where she has been since she was baptized on June 25, 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Daniel Ledford; parents, R.G. Hood and Sarah Amanda Hampton Hood; grandson, Dale Woody; theree brothers; and six sisters. She is survived by her children, Max Ledford and wife, Helen of Cleveland, Lorene Toomey and husband, J.D. of Old Fort, and Loreta (Rita) Ellis of Old Fort; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Reverend Leroy Elliott officiating. Interment will follow at Benton Memorial Gardens. The service will conclude with a White Dove Release Ceremony. Her family will receive friends on Sunday, June 21, 2009 from 6;00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
