Obituary

Beecher Edward "Ed" Lawson Jr., 82, of the Benton Station Community, departed this life peacefully on January 29, 2025, at his home.

He was born on April 26, 1942, in Etowah, Tennessee, to the late Beecher E. Lawson, Sr. and Kathryn Dilworth Lawson. He was a graduate of Polk County High School where he received multiple honors and awards. A few awards received by Ed from PoCoHi include serving 4 years on the Student Council, Most Athletic, and was named Mr. PoCoHi his senior year. A 4-year letterman of the football, basketball, and baseball teams, Ed was also a member of the Pep Club. Following graduation from high school in 1960, Ed attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, graduating in August 1964, with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Degree.

His 48 years of employment in sales and management with Kraft Foods, Tri Clover, Rodem, Sewell Supply, and Brinks companies afforded him the opportunity to travel and work in states ranging from Florida to Minnesota. While a Rodem employee, Ed was awarded the Rookie of the Year award as well as the Outstanding Sales Achievement Award.

His wide range of work experience allowed him to confirm what he already knew-he was born and raised in the "garden spot" of the world specifically, Polk County, Tennessee.

As a member of Benton Station Baptist Church, he served as Sunday School Director for 13 years as well as a member of various church committees including Trustee Board and Cemetery Committee. On the county level, he served as Moderator of the Polk County Baptist Association and other sub committees including Trustee Committee and Chairman of the Budget Committee. Ed chaired a committee which was responsible for developing the first football field at Camp Agape. He also helped with many other activities at Camp Agape including food delivery for Children's Camp, mowing the grass, and road grading.

Ed was a caring, considerate citizen of Polk County. He always upheld his love for Polk County as exemplified in his continued support of school sports and community activities.
