Obituary

Bettie Sue Johnson Anderson, 80, of Benton, passed away on June 2, 2026.

She was born on July 3, 1945, in Conasauga, TN, to the late Ernest and Margie Johnson.

Throughout her life, she passionately loved her family, her church family, and her community of friends. A faithful and active member of Zion Baptist Church where she taught Vacation Bible School and kept the children in the nursery. A few of her fondest memories include the many trips to the thrift stores, playing Bingo, casino trips, and especially her travels to Savannah, GA and Pigeon Forge. She also volunteered with the Polk County High School Marching Band and enjoyed Friday Night Football cheering on the Wildcats. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, Ernest and Margie Johnson, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Vergil Anderson; brother, J. D. Johnson; sisters, Glenda (Ed)Teague and Anita (Lee Roy) Givens.

Left to cherish the many memories include her daughter, Carmen (Steve) Handy; stepdaughter, Cindy Green; granddaughters, Kelsey (Brandon) Wilson, Kallie (Austin) Wilson; great grandchildren, Peightyn, Myles and Sylas.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Zion Baptist Church with Pastor David Peters and Pastor Mike Hazlewood officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Byron Evans, Douglas Evans, Hunter Martin, Denny Bates, Larry Tankersley and Brandon Tankersley serving as pallbearers. Greg Evans will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Her family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, prior to the service at the church.
