Betty J. Shipman Stephens, 73, of Benton, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2010 at the family residence. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Willie Kersey Shipman; daughter, Donna Sue Higgins Steele; and brother Bobby Don Shipman. She is survived by her husband, Donald Stephens of Benton; children, Scott Stephens and wife, Donna; four grandchildren, Jermiah Higgins and wife, April of Benton, Nickelous Higgins and wife, Collette of Camp LeJeune, NC; Amy Stephens Williams and husband, Dustin of Delano and Trevor Stephens of Benton; four great grandchildren, Preston Higgins, Peyton Higgins, Kylee Higgins and Laney Williams; brother, the Reverend W. L. Shipman and wife, Lucille of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Charles Cheatham and the Reverend Jasper Woody officiating. Interment will be held on Monday at 11:00 in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
