Brenda LaVance Clayton went home to be with her Lord February 23, 2009 after a courageous battle with a long illness. She was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her son, Chris Brackett. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 32 years, David Clayton; daughters: Kim Brackett Smith of Cleveland and Sabrina Rhodes of Ohio; grandchildren: Ashleigh Sims of Benton and Zach Smith of Cleveland; siblings and spouses: Jackie and Vickie Bates, Terri Bates, Vance and Kathy Bates all of Benton; mother, Irene Brown and father Vance Davis Bates and step mother Doris Bates all of Benton; several aunts and uncles also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Kurt Benson and Reverend Huel Hooker officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Church Cemetery with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Her family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Higgins Funeral Home.
