Charles Walter Raines, age 62, a life long resident of Benton, passed away Monday, February 27, 2006 in a Chattanooga hospital. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Raines was the son of the late J.P. and Pearl Lewis Raines and was also preceded in death by brothers: Paul Raines, Freddie Raines and Clayton Raines; one daughter, Shirleene Raines.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Carol Jordan Raines of Benton; two daughters: Charlene Raines of Safety Harbor, Florida and Shaona Raines of Cleveland; step children: Jason Powell and Tonya of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, Johnathan Powell of Benton, Jill Powell and Jordan Powell both of Benton; five grandchildren; four sisters and spouses: Mary Frances and Ralph Harris of Cleveland, Jane Green of Benton, Teresa and Sim Kibble of Ooltewah and Jacqueline and Larry Gaston of Athens; four brothers and spouses: Johnny and Patsy Raines of Benton, Roy and Regina Raines of Benton, Ronny and Margie Raines of Monticello, Georgia and Don Raines of Ocoee; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Hatcher officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Cemetery with the release of a flock of white doves concluding the service.

His family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
