Charles A. Martin, 76, of Reliance, departed this life peacefully on May 28, 2023, at his home surrounded by those he loved most.
He was born on May 17, 1947, in Monroe County, to the late Alger and Mildred Henson Martin.
Charlie was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church and a friend to many in the Reliance community, where he was well-known and respected by all. A few of his fondest memories include hunting, fishing, and spending time as a guide on the river.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Charles "Chuck" Martin.
Left to cherish the many memories include his beloved wife of 54 years, Sue Jones Martin; children, John Martin, and Tammy Martin; grandchildren, Stephanie Brock, Jayme Carter, Michael Martin, Bryce Martin, and Brandon Martin; great-grandchildren, Haley, Robby, Bentley, Braelynn, and Shaylene; siblings, Gerald (Sue) Martin, Stanley Martin, Shirley (Ray) Gay, Linda (Jr) Norwood, Patsy Couey, Darlene (James) Jones, and Karen St. Clair. Several nieces, nephews, and many friends across the country also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Maple Springs Baptist Church, with Pastor Vernon Webb officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery, with John Qualls, Michael Martin, Bryce Martin, Chris Bates, Brian Muir, Morgan Weathers, Brian Martin, and Joseph Bates serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Goforth, and Gene Ledford.
Family and friends will gather from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Higgins Funeral Home of Benton.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to sisters-in-law, Faye, Pam, and Kim, as well as the staff of Amedysis Hospice, Dominique, and Renee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Way, Memphis, TN 38105.
