Edith Hamby Blackwell, 98, a resident of Benton, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010 in an Etowah healthcare facility. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Benton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Blackwell; parents, Wiley and Polly Shaw Hamby; four brothers; and three sisters. She is survived by her children, Wilma Jenkins of Canton, GA and Sandra Pickens and husband, Lee of Marietta, GA and Judy Silva of Rockville, MD.,Carolyn Bennett of Cartsville, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 8, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Richard Chastain and the Reverend Charlie Bain officiating. Interment will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00-7:00 at the funeral home prior to the service.
