Obituary

Edsel "Ed" Beavers, 82 of Old Fort, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009 in a local hospital. He was born February 2, 1927 in Tennga, GA. He was a member of Blue Ridge Temple Baptist Church, where he "loved" singing in the choir. He was employed with numerous companies including Hall Chevrolet in Cleveland where he enjoyed working with the public for 19 years. Following his retirement with Hall Chevrolet, he accepted a position as the Polk County Veterans Affair Officer. He was a veteran of the United State Navy where he served his country during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Vincennes. He served the South Pacific and became qualified as a "Shellback" in 1945. He was an active member of the Conasauga Lodge F&A M #396. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Gary Beavers; parents Reece and Esther Beavers; brother Roy Beavers. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Lorraine Beavers; children, Leon Beavers and wife, Linda; Steve Beavers and wife, Gwen; Connie Mull and husband, Mike, all of Old Fort, Alton Beavers and wife, Gwen of Cleveland; brother, Clyde Beavers of Hendersonville, TN; sister, Johnny Ruth Headrick of Crandall, GA; brother, Sam Beavers of Cleveland; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Blue Ridge Temple Baptist Church in Old Fort with Rev. Jimmy Parm and Rev. Steve Beavers, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Dill Cemetery in Old Fort. The service will conclude with military honors and a White Dove Release Ceremony. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 19, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home in Benton.
