Floyd Blackwell, 66, of Athens, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014, at his residence. He was a life-long resident of McMinn and Polk Counties and of Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mamie Poe. Floyd is survived by his wife, Gayle Blackwell of Athens; father, Fred Franklin of Cleveland; children, Tim Blackwell of Cleveland, Gary Blackwell of Cleveland, Rick Blackwell of Tunnel Hill, GA, Don Blackwell of Cleveland, Phillip Blackwell of Polk Co.; step sons, Mike Hensley of Dayton and Jeff Woody of Athens; seven grandchildren, Austin, Emily, Cody, Zac, Logan, Casson, and Cadence; step-sisters, Becky, Linda, Brenda and Judy. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Guffey officiating. Interment will be held in Old Ocoee Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home prior to the service.
