Freddy McFarland, 78, of Benton, passed away Monday, September 7, 2015 at the McMinn Memorial Nursing Home in Etowah, TN. He was lifelong Democrat of Polk County. He was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Cora Hughes McFarland. He is survived by his wife, Sue McFarland; children, Melissa (Whitney) Webb of Etowah, Carol (Joel) Walker of Blue Ridge, GA, David (Mary Beth) McFarland of Morristown, TN, Marti (Steve) Hale of Athens, TN; sisters, Louise Allen and Barbara Deal both of Cleveland, TN; Pauline McFarland, mother of Melissa and Marti; grandchildren, Michael and Kenny McFarland, Chris Garnsey, Chad and Cody McFarland, Suzanne Townsend, Rylee Jo Hale, Rachel Hale, Ressie Hale, Matthew Walker and Kyle Webb; special great-niece, Kim Mashburn. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Ritchie Tallent and Reverend Joe Hatcher officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home.
