IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold "Harry"
D. Makeever, Jr.
October 29, 1957 – September 1, 2025
On the evening of Monday, September 1, 2025, Harold (Harry) Delton Makeever tragically lost his life in an accident. He was 67 years young and preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Rose Ann (Nunes) Makeever.
Harry (as he asked us southerners to call him, since we couldn't pronounce 'Harold' correctly) was born in Newport, RI. After being raised on Aquidneck Island, Harry's wanderlust took him across the country, making close friends wherever he stopped. As Harold's nephew, Chris Correia, beautifully stated:
"Harold had an appetite for adventure so great that not only did he live life to the fullest, he influenced others to do the same. His kind demeanor, generosity, and superb story-telling ability (fueled by his many adventures) made it easy for him to earn your friendship in mere minutes."
Harold was a protector at heart. In his younger years, he regularly stood up to bullies, forming close friendships in the process. He loved all critters - from cats to dragonflies to his beloved creek's crawfish. Harry's compassionate spirit drew in everyone he met, people and wildlife alike. In 2020, after many years working in home improvement around Memphis, Harry retired and settled with his wife in Delano. He immediately fell in love with the beautiful mountains and rivers, the perfect winding roads, and the wonderful locals.
Harry leaves his wife and best friend of 40 years, Elizabeth (Betsy) DeGroff of Delano, TN; his daughter, Molly Rose Crossett and her husband, Alex, of Harrison, TN; and his only sibling, Sandra (Sandy) Correia of Naples, FL. Harold loved and valued his many extended family members and friends.
Celebrations of life for Harry will be held at later dates in Rhode Island and in Tennessee.
