Herman D. Akin, 90, of Ocoee, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at a local hospital. He was a retired electrician with TVA. Herman was also a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II. He was a member of Cookson Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Arthur Akin and Dora Smith Akin. Herman is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dixie Newman Akin of Ocoee; sons, Jerry Akin and wife, Stacey of Ocoee and John Akin and wife, Sherry of Benton; and twin granddaughters, Kyra Akin and Madison Akin. Funeral services will be at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2013 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Larry Chastain officiating. Interment will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Benton Memorial Gardens with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.
