James "Pete" Blackwell, 74, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday July 5, 2014 at the family residence with his family at his side. He was an active member of First Baptist Church. He was devoted to his family and friends. Pete was a member of Ocoee Lodge 212 and a 32nd Degree Mason. He loved Parksville Lake, loved to golf and Tennessee football. His parents, Reverend Verdine and Oleta Blackwell, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis May Blackwell; children, Doug Blackwell and Cheryl Blackwell; grandchildren, Jason Cross and Lindsey Cross; great grandchildren, Sarah and Ella Cross; brother, Bill Blackwell and wife, Sally; special friends, Wilma Cross, Dewayne and Judy Hooper, all of Cleveland, Eva Thulin and Marie Mortsell of Sweden, and Christy Walker and Jeanne Pennington of Athens; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at First Baptist Church with the Reverend Tom Wickes officiating.
