Jane W. Lawson, 84, of Benton Tennessee, departed this life peacefully on Friday evening, April 11, 2025, at her home, surrounded by family.
She was born on September 1st, 1940, in Turtletown, Tennessee, to the late Charles and Ola Williams. Throughout life, Jane was a kind and remarkable soul while always portraying herself simply elegant and charming.
A 1958 graduate of Polk County High School, where she held several honorable awards. Jane furthered her education by obtaining her bachelor's degree in 1962 from East Tennessee State University following it with her master's degree in 1972 from Union College in Barbourville, Ky., and completed her education journey by obtaining an Education Specialist degree from Eastern Kentucky University.
Mrs. Lawson loved her time serving as a pianist for several years, as well as Sunday school teacher at Benton Station Baptist Church.
The early years of her career were spent in the high school classroom in Atlanta, Ga. With her longest tenure being at Bell County High School in Pineville, Ky. A total of 34 years of teaching business subjects. A few of her fondest memories include the many students that learned and excelled under her guidance. She educated thousands of students and always looked forward to teaching every day of her extraordinary career. She also was the recipient of adjunct faculty award in 1990 which was presented to her by first lady Mrs. Barbara Bush.
Jane held several other positions after her retirement. She was active in the Polk County Baptist Association, Polk Alumni Association, where she served as secretary and the Polk County education foundation executive secretary.
In addition to her parents, Charles and Ola Williams, she was recently preceded in death by her beloved husband of 34 years, Beecher "Ed" Lawson.
Left to cherish the many memories include her sister and best friend, Sara Williams Koon; nephew, Tim (Monica) Massam; great-nephew, Mathew Massam; great-niece, Courtney Massam. Several cousins and numerous extended family members also survive.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Benton Station Baptist Church, with Pastor Ryan Potts officiating. Interment will follow at Benton Station Baptist Church Cemetery, with friends and family serving as pallbearers.
Her family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. (noon) to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
