John "J.R." Disney, 80, of Benton, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012 in an Etowah hospital. He was retired carpenter with Simpson Bridge Company. Mr. Disney was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Eugene and Flossie Swafford Disney and daughter, Veronica Disney Bell. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Day Disney of Benton; daughter, Cindy Disney of Etowah; and grandsons, Joshua Nathaniel Bell of Benton and David Mathew Bell of Maryville. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Ken Zollinger and the Reverend David Peters officiating. Interment will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Old Ocoee Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
