John K. (Chet) Gilliland, age 98, a former resident of Benton, passed away Friday, June 13, 2014 in a Etowah healthcare facility. He was of the Methodist Faith. He was a well know farmer in the area. He was preceded in death by his parents, Squire Bill and Laura Christian Gilliland; his wife Pauline Stone Gilliland; son, Spencer Gilliland; his brothers, Foy and Broughton Gilliland; and sisters, Eva Lee Bates, Ovean Scarbrough, and Margie Gilliland. He is survived by, Libby McBay, a special niece and care giver and also surviving are several nieces and nephews. No services are planned at this time.
