Joseph Michael Philips, age 71, a resident of Old Fort, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010 at the family residence. He attended Westwood Baptist Church. Mr. Philips was a retired civil engineer with the Department of Transportation in Florida. He is the son of the late Mike and Anna Toporcer Philips and was also preceded in death by one daughter, Marianne Philips. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Rose Torok Philips of Old Fort; daughters, Teresa Roberts of Old Fort; Rosalie and husband, Paul Mayer of Soddy Daisy; grandchildren: Sarah Roberts and Derek Roberts both of Old Fort; one brother, Michael Joseph Philips of Kissimmee, FL; brother-in-law, John Torok of Avon Lake, OH; nephews and neices, Deborah Philips Heavener, Suzanne Long, Michael Philips, Jackie Torok, Elizabeth Torok, and Johnny Torok. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2010 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend James Murphy officiating.
