Joy W. Gibson Tilson, 95, a life long resident of Etowah, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011 in a Etowah hospital. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Benton. She was a former employee of Woods Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Tilson was the daughter of the late Basken Gibson and Carrie Wilson Brock and was also preceded in death by her husband, James Fred Tilson; daughter, Helen Rogers; sisters, Billie Martin and Wilma Dale. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Spicer and husband Lester Spicer of Benton; four granddaughters: Gaye Belter ,Pam Burchfield, Brenda Howard and Patty Huffaker; three grandsons: Gary Rogers, James Cheek and Joe Cheek; great-grandsons, Nathan Cheek and Matthew Cheek; great-great-grandchildren: Jason Ulmenstine, Christy Griggs, Karri Grady, Casey Huffaker, Jennifer Belter; great-great-great-grandchildren: Lydia Huffaker Grady, Noah Grady and Emma Grady. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Reverend Junior Burger officiating. Interment will follow in Benton Memorial Gardens with Joe Check, James Check, Jason Ulmenstine, Dennis Burchfield, Lester Spicer and Jeff Swanson serving as pallbearers. Her family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the funeral home prior to the service.
