Joyce Hammons Combs, 62, of Cleveland TN passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church. She graduated from ETSU with a degree in social work and worked with abused children during her career. She retired as the Administrator of a Residential Treatment Center for juveniles located in Pennsylvania. Joyce was an avid photographer who enjoyed wildlife and the outdoors. She was a gourmet cook and enjoyed entertaining others.

She was preceded in death by her father, Judge Frank D. Hammons, Sr. and most recently her mother, Zelda Hammons; brother, Frank D. Hammons, Jr.

She is survived by her husband of 29 years, David Combs; sister, Joan Hammons of Benton, TN; sister-in-law, Rita Hammons of Benton, TN; niece, Jennifer Ledford and her husband Tim and their daughter, Zady; nephew, Troy Hammons and his children, Elise and Jackson. She loved her nephew, niece and their children like they were her own.

Joyce was a very special person who often said she wanted to be remembered with smiles and laughter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Higgins Funeral Home in Benton, TN with the Reverend Mike Hazlewood officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017 in Comers Creek Cemetery located in the beautiful mountains of Virginia near Troutdale, VA.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the funeral home prior to the service.

Her family expresses a special thanks to the Memorial Hospital Oncology and Hospice of Chattanooga staff for their professionalism and kindness during her illness.
