Lorene Pless Merrell, 73, of Reliance, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at her residence. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Carrie Queen Pless; daughter, Frances Mason; son, Roger Hicks; sister, Eleane Durham; and brother, Winston Pless. Survivors include her son, Robbie Hicks and wife, Kathy of Reliance; daughter, Debbie and Jeff Patterson of Cleveland; five grandsons; eight great grandchildren; husband, Homer Merrell; sister, Loretta Allen of Coppherhill; brothers, Solon Pless and wife, Polly of Copperhill and Steven Pless and wife, Lorene of Georgia; stepson, Winston Merrell; stepdaughter, Bridget Hammons; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and best friend, Billie Higgins. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2014 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Richard Mason and the Reverend Lloyd Deal officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hill Cemetery with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Her family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
