Marie Hicks Thompson, 87, a lifelong resident of Reliance, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011 in a McMinn County healthcare facility. She was a member of Springtown Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Harvey Hicks and Dovie Hensley Hicks; husband, J. C. Thompson, Jr.; son, Bill Thompson; and granddaughter, Dawn Marie Gentry. She is survived by her children, Pat Gentry of Etowah, Terry Thompson and wife, Lisa of Benton and Larry Thompson of Reliance; grandchildren, Beverly Smith, Kenneth Thompson, Wayne Gentry, William Gentry, Kellie Colley, Christy Thompson, Michael Thompson, Nicholas Thompson, Josh Thompson, Katie Thompson, A. J. Thompson and Brittany Thompson; numerous great and great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Pete Morgan officiating. Interment will be Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in Camp Ground Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
