Matthew Smith, 17, of Ocoee, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2016. He was a member of Hillcrest Church of God. He played football for Polk County High School as a freshman and served as manager of the team for the past two years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ement Smith and grandfather, L.V. Smith.

He is survived by his mother, Georgianna Smith; siblings, Britany and Reed Taylor, Brandon, Ryan, Alexus and Daniel Smith and Blaine Maxwell; nieces and nephews, Samuel and Camia Taylor and Ement, Camie and Cayee Smith; grandparents, Marie Smith, Alica and Jerry McDowell and Andrew Jackson; aunts and uncles, Thelma Underwood, Glenda and Eddie, Rebecca and Carl Stinnett, Carassa, John Stinnett, George Smith, Jennifer and Chuck Haggert and Angela Jackson and numerous cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Pastor Zack Davis officiating. Interment will follow at New Friendship Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the funeral home.
