Mildred Locke, 80, of Benton, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014 at a local hospital. Mildred was the last charter member of Mountain View Baptist Church. Her father Lee Locke and brother Robert (Bud) Locke built the church. Mildred was a teacher in the Polk County School System for many years. She was very active in her church where she was the Bible School Director, directed the Christmas play and was the church secretary for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Prudie Rogers Locke and sister, Bernice Newman. Survivors include her brother, Robert (Bud) Locke and wife, Dorothy (Dot) Locke; niece, Dr. Leslie Newman Brown; nephews, Robert Jr. and Randy Locke; great niece and nephews; Sara Beth, Austin, and Zack Locke. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Pete Morgan officiating. Interment will be held in Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2014. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. Her family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
