Peggy Sue Stone Alford, beloved and devoted mother, proud Mammaw Peggy “MP”, a source of strength to family and friends. Ms. Peggy entered her heavenly home on April 18, 2026, wrapped in peace and surrounded by love. She was 81.
Her life reflected unwavering faith, strength, kindness, steady compassion, and a heart that always seemed to have room for one more person to care for. She created warmth wherever she went, whether through comforting words, a thoughtful gesture, a stranger needing to be noticed, or the simple way she listened with her whole heart.
As a mother, she provided love, encouragement and a safe home for her family. She was the best Mammaw Peggy to eight grandchildren and never missed a chance to tell them how much she loved them. She was so proud to be their Mammaw Peggy, and always showed them a love that was true, deep, and unconditional – a love bigger than words can express.
She was a devout Christian, an active member of Benton Station Baptist Church, loved to garden, and a phenomenal seamstress. She cared for many children in the community, along with helping her senior friends to appointments and events. She loved gospel music concerts and followed many groups over the years. Those who knew her felt her kind spirit. She had a way of offering hope without needing recognition. Her presence was a blessing, and her absence is felt deeply.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William Loyd Stone, Lula Dill Stone, brother, Roy Austin Stone; infant great-granddaughter, Waverly Lake Hall.
She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Yates, Donna (Dale) Hall, Marjorie Alford, and Karen (Brian) Mooneyham; grandchildren, Megan (Scott) Strawbridge, Sara (Nick) Cross, Deidra (Rocky) Bailey, Elliott (Caitlyn) Yates, Houston Mooneyham, Delany (Zach) Poteet, Daley Hall, and Daniel Hall; seven great-grandchildren, and five step great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Benton Station Baptist Church, with Pastor Ryan Potts, Rev. Joel Jenkins, and Chaplain David Rapson officiating. A graveside committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Benton Station Baptist Church Cemetery, with Elliott Yates, Houston Mooneyham, Daniel Hall, Nick Cross, Zach Poteet, and Christian Passmore serving as pallbearers.
Her family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Benton Station Baptist Church perpetual cemetery fund, P.O. Box 488 Benton, TN 37307. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice of Chattanooga – Cleveland Unit for their generous care.
Higgins Funeral Home of Benton is in charge of arrangements.
