Robert Eugene Thompson, 81, of Benton, passed away Friday, January 29, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Sue Thompson; daughter, Alice Thompson; parents, William and Lillie Meeker Thompson. He is survived by his children, Larry Eugene Thompson of Wauchula, FL, Carolina Hatchel of Benton, Gary Thompson and wife, Teresa of South Haven, MI, Teresa Diana Thompson of Cleveland, Bessie Jane Porter of Benton and Kenneth Thompson and wife, Chris of Bowling Green, FL; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Gerwig of MI; brothers, Roy Thompson and Bill Thompson and wife, Hazel, all of FL; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Robbie Speights officiating. Interment will follow in Benton Memorial Gardens with military honors. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
