Shannon M. Hays, 90, of Reliance, TN went to sleep with Jesus Sunday, September 22, 2013 in a local healthcare facility. She was born on November 23, 1922 to the late Selma and James O'Mara of Indianapolis, IN. Shannon was a graduate of the old Emrich Manual High School in Indianapolis, IN. She was loved by all those who knew her and was a charter member of the Benton Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was preceded in death by her step father, Lewthaniel Pettigrew; late husband, Ed Hays and Kirk Key. She is survived by her three sons, Robert H. VanDevander, Jr. (Donna), John M. VanDevander (Sharon) and David J. VanDevander (Angela); adopted daughter, Louise Ostgard; grandchildren, Angie Krukemeier (Tom), Rob VanDevander, III (Terri), Julie Gabler (Don), Linda Waters (John), David VanDevander, II and Matthew VanDevander; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, James O'Mara of Indianapolis, IN and Richard O'Mara (Pat) of Beechgrove, IN and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Benton Community Seventh-day Adventist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to 3 ABN or Laurelbrook Nursing Home in Dayton, TN. Higgins Funeral Home of Benton is in charge of the arrangements.
