September 2, 1937 – April 5, 2025
Yvonne Goforth, a beloved resident of Greasy Creek, passed away on April 5, 2025. Born on September 2, 1937, in Polk County, she was the daughter of the late Broughton 'B.E.' Campbell and Mollie Rymer Campbell, part of the original settlers of the Greasy Creek Community.
Yvonne was a lifelong member of the Greasy Creek Baptist Church, where she was saved at an early age. She was a talented musician, serving as the church pianist in the fifties and sixties before transitioning to the guitar.
Her career as the cafeteria manager at Greasy Creek School allowed her to become a mother figure to many children in the community. Known for her wit and comical personality, Yvonne was also an exceptional cook, famous for her turkey and dressing, chocolate and coconut pies, and her canning skills.
Yvonne cherished her time with her grandchildren, Colby and Briar, and was surrounded by many friends, including her best friend, Frances Campbell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Goforth, her parents, and her brother, Willis Campbell. She is survived by her son, Dale (Victoria) Goforth, daughter, Ghena (Tommy) Frazier, grandsons, Colby Goforth and Briar (Hannah) Lowe, brother, Wendell (Dean) Campbell, sister, Marilyn (Henry) Rymer, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home, officiated by Reverend Hoyle Ellis. Interment will follow at Greasy Creek Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family extends their deepest appreciation to Charter Assisted Living, Hospice of Chattanooga, and Sue Martin for their devoted care, as well as to the Greasy Creek Baptist Church community for their love and support.
